As part of Green Volt’s commitment to community engagement, members of the project team enjoyed a great day representing the project at this year’s Wild About Aden – one of Aberdeenshire’s favourite family events.
About the event
Organised by Buchan Development Partnership (BDP), the event promotes family learning opportunities through a wide range of hands-on activities, whilst raising awareness of the local environment and the North East of Scotland’s rich farming heritage. Originally led by Aberdeenshire Council’s Community Learning and Development team, Buchan Development Partnership (BDP) took over the running and management of the event approximately 10 years ago – helping ensure this highly popular occasion in the Aden calendar was able to continue.
The free event is delivered by Buchan Development Partnership in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council services, Friends of Aden, local community groups, charities, environmental and heritage organisations, and a dedicated team of volunteers.
Building understanding across local communities
As the world’s largest commercial-scale floating offshore wind project in development, Green Volt is committed to early and meaningful engagement with communities across Aberdeenshire. We attended to meet local residents, share updates on key aspects of the Green Volt project and answer any questions local people may have. The Green Volt community engagement stand was located alongside organisations including Storegga’s Acorn Carbon Capture Project and Aberdeen Science Centre, creating a great opportunity to engage with the wider community.

Throughout the day, the team spoke with around 200 people and delivered a range of STEM activities. Children also had great fun making their own Green Volt branded windmills to take home.
The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, and it was especially encouraging to see several children recognise Teresa Dawson, Green Volt Community Liaison, from her recent visits to local primary schools. Moments like these demonstrate the value of building positive lasting relationships with our local communities and we look forward to many more to come!
