MINIMISING
IMPACT

The Green Volt project is committed to keeping the impact on local harbours and fishing communities to an absolute minimum.

We are engaging in extensive dialogue with fishing communities to ensure local voices are heard and feedback is documented in project plans.

HOW WE ARE
DOING THIS

Fishing equipment relocation

Should gear relocation be required to access a busy fishing area, this will be done through the correct channels and in line with:

  •  The Fishing Liaison with Offshore Wind and Wet Renewables Group Best Practice Guidance.

The windfarm site boundaries have been modified to avoid an important Nephrops fishing ground to the south-east of the site.

A Fisheries Management and Mitigation Strategy (FMMS) will be developed in consultation with the relevant fisheries organisations and submitted to the Marine Directorate for approval before commencement of offshore construction.

A red and white fishing boat named "Kylie S" with the registration KY449 is moored at a harbour beside another boat labelled "Gem.

Pre-construction and installation surveys

During any pre-construction/installation survey works, early dialogue with local fishing communities will be key to ensuring all stakeholders are aware of planned activities, including when and where these are taking place.

Further detail will follow here in associated project documentation. See our Documents.

Consideration under our Environmental Impact Assessment

Commercial fisheries are scoped into the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Project and potential impacts will be fully considered and suitable mitigation measures developed, as appropriate.
