PROTECTING
NATURE

In line with our Environmental Impact Assessments, extensive measures will be in place across the project to protect the local environment.

In addition, we have taken specialist advice at each stage of project development, to ensure our mitigation measures are effective and robust.

HOW WE ARE
DOING THIS

MINIMISING THE IMPACT ON BIRDS

Green Volt submitted Scotland’s first ever without-prejudice derogation case in relation to compensation measures for ornithology and are working with the regulator and statutory nature conservation bodies to deliver and discharge a detailed Seabird Compensation Plan.

The project has submitted a range of evidence based reports to minimise the impact on birds over time. To read in full, use the link below and visit our Document library – using the search filter ‘Offshore Application – Additional Information’.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES – BY DESIGN

The export cable from the offshore windfarm location will be installed via Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) at landfall, thus minimising as much as possible environmental impacts at the shoreline.

The export cable will be microsited to avoid any sensitive habitats, including areas of Sabellaria reefs if confirmed present during the pre-construction surveys.

SPECIALIST ADVICE & GOVERNANCE

For our onshore development activities, there will be an Ecological Clerk of Works (an independent specialist) to make sure habitats and wildlife are appropriately protected. This person will have the power to stop work if they are concerned.

Offshore, the Ecological Clerk of Works will ensure compliance with the mitigation and monitoring measures set out in the post-consent plans and in the EIA Commitments Register.
