Green Volt – Stakeholder Lead
Stakeholder Lead, Mark McDonald heads up our project stakeholder engagement team, with over 15 years’ experience in the energy industry. On a day to day basis, Mark interacts with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and dialogue with regulatory authorities and businesses with project interests, through to local land owners and residents.

Peterhead Community Trust (PACT) Victoria Community Park
A local project we have been working with is the Peterhead Area Community Trust (PACT) programme to enhance Victoria Community Park close to Peterhead town centre. With Green Volt’s transmission cable making landfall at Peterhead, it marks an opportunity for stakeholders to come together to consider how the local area could be enhanced. Working with PACT, to date has included:
- Installing talking bins, which encourage proper waste disposal
- Regular weeding to keep the park’s greenery vibrant
- Organising litter picking to maintain a clean and welcoming environment
- Landscaping painted stones in the garden as part of a wider team to add unique and colorful touches that bring joy to park visitors
The works have significantly improved the park, making it a more beautiful and enjoyable space for everyone.

WHY COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MATTERS
Community engagement has always been close to my heart. Outside of Flotation Energy, I volunteer my time as a Director for a Trust Charity Organisation where I’ve dedicated myself to developing vibrant communities, especially for young people—and working to conserve our environment and heritage. This experience has forged my belief that real change happens when communities come together to shape their future.
I’m thrilled to bring this passion to the Green Volt project, a groundbreaking project focused on renewable energy and community empowerment. Green Volt isn’t just about providing sustainable energy solutions—it’s about fostering real connections within communities and ensuring that everyone has a stake in our shared future.
Our mission is to engage local residents from the ground up, giving them a voice in shaping the project and its benefits. We aim to create not only environmental impact but also social value by investing in the people and places that matter most. Through open dialogue, educational programs, and collaboration with local leaders, Green Volt will enhance opportunities for young people, improve local facilities, and protect the natural environment.
For me, this project is an opportunity to replicate the same values I hold dear—collaboration, sustainability, and long-term community growth. I believe that by putting people at the centre of our work, Green Volt can become a model of what community-led sustainability looks like in action. Together, we’re building a greener, more inclusive future for all.
SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
PARTNERING WITH LOCAL EDUCATION PROVIDERS
Our local schools engagement programme delivers a coordinated focus on how science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects can provide useful foundation skills for an onward career in renewable energy and certain roles in the offshore wind sector.
From primary school years through to secondary and further education, our work in schools is a key part of our commitment under the Green Volt STEM engagement strategy.
