OUR PROJECT
COMMITMENT
Community benefits are designed to ensure that when essential infrastructure – such as renewable energy developments – is hosted by local areas, the communities directly benefit from their presence. The Green Volt project is committed to delivering a community benefit fund in line with both UK and Scottish government guidance.
Community benefits may include, but are not limited to:
-
Funding for local projects
-
Support for outreach initiatives
-
Grants to individuals or organisations in the local area
They can also be used to drive long-term investment and economic growth by supporting local infrastructure, supply chains, and skills development.
POLICY GUIDANCE
The UK Government’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero recently published its Community Funds for Transmission Infrastructure guidance. Meanwhile, the Scottish Government is reviewing its Good Practice Principles for community benefits from onshore and offshore renewable energy developments. Green Volt is fully committed to aligning with both frameworks.
As part of this commitment, our team will soon begin a new phase of engagement with local people and organisations to ensure that the community benefit scheme reflects local needs and priorities.
PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
This is a separate process from the public engagement undertaken as part of the project’s onshore and offshore consent applications. However, the feedback gathered during those consultations has helped identify key themes and will inform this new phase of engagement.
As we shape the community benefits scheme, we welcome input from individuals and organisations across the local area.
The Green Volt stakeholder team has been working on a number of community initiatives, including the Peterhead Area Community Trust (PACT) programme, which has included improvements to Victoria Community Park in the town itself.
