This week, our team is carrying out an ecology survey focused on badgers along the onshore cable route.

Why we’re doing this

The survey will help us update important environmental information and support planning documents like species protection plans. We’re specifically looking for signs of badger activity, such as setts (burrows) and foraging areas.

When it is happening

The survey starts Monday 2 June and will continue until Friday 6 June. Work will take place during normal working hours.

What to expect

  • Two ecologists from Gavia Environmental will be walking the area — no equipment, cameras, or bait will be used
  • They’ll be looking for visible signs of badgers only
  • Survey areas include land within 100m of the cable route, focusing on places where badgers might rest

What this means for you

  • There is no disruption expected to the public
  • Please do not disturb the ecologists if you see them working

Safety

Our team will be following all safety protocols, especially around cattle, and will work alone only when it’s safe to do so.

What’s next

Once the survey is complete, we will prepare a report. Depending on what we find, there may be more surveys or actions to help protect wildlife.

Thank you for your support as we carry out this important environmental work.
